Corrosion testing in marine environments

Corrosion is a major problem in marine environments. Full-scale corrosion tests in seawater are possible at Swerea’s facility in Brest in France.

At our Brest test facility we are able to test various components intended for marine structures, such as those used in the oil and gas sector or the wind power industry.

The tests are conducted by pumping seawater from the Atlantic up to a specially-constructed laboratory, where any corrosion can be measured and analysed under controlled conditions. This activity is carried out in collaboration with the French research institute Ifremer.

Clients include suppliers of materials and components, as well as producers from the oil and gas industries.
